A souvenir of XXXX, Jerusalem
Parcel sent by: Katya Nikulin (Bezalel)
Souvenir made by: Issa Mushidi (Luca)
I was very excited when I got my letter from Katya and found out that the place she chose to show me was a house located in the central part of Jerusalem. This neighborhood, Nachlaot is known for its many ‘hidden’ artworks that you can find in almost every street, if you look hard enough.
This idea of ‘hidden’ art was constantly present in the back of my mind while looking at the photo’s Katya sent me.
To me the house felt like a sort of museum that needed to be kept safe by these beautiful metal rails and fences. It was strange because after knowing the neighborhood was full of art I almost couldn’t differentiate what was actually a piece of work or what was just trash or an ordinary object. This is vastly what made it so interesting.
To me these rails and fences were a sort of gatekeeper to all of these works of art. Or should I say these fences and rails were in a way protecting all that could be art.
This idea inspired me to remake a piece of the rails
